BP Big Screen - La traviata

On 04 Jul 2017

Enjoy a free performance of this popular opera broadcast live from the Royal Opera House in London's Covent Garden. La traviata combines drama, profound emotion and wonderful melody at Duthie Park.

A fantastic opportunity to introduce children to opera without the formality and cost of a trip to the theatre. Join us for free opera on the big screen at Duthie Park broadcast live via satellite from the Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden. Suitable for families but please be aware that the opera will be sung in Italian with English subtitles.

La Traviata is Giuseppe Verdi’s tragic tale of love and loss. ‘A toast to the pleasures of life!’ – so sings Violetta, her new admirer Alfredo and her party guests in the opening scene. But beneath the surface glamour of Violetta’s Parisian life run darker undercurrents: her doomed love for Alfredo and the tensions the lovers encounter when they break society’s conventions.

Bring a picnic, picnic rug or deck chairs, make yourself comfortable and enjoy the night. Glassware, cans, barbecues or naked flames are not allowed. A selection of hot and cold soft drinks will be available to purchase.

Entry to the Big Screen is via Polmuir Road or Riverside Drive. Parking is limited to the Riverside Drive car park so wherever possible please use public transport.
