Slow Marathon 2017: Energised Landscape

From 15 Apr 2017 To 16 Apr 2017

A 26 mile walk exploring our relationship to energy and the landscape.

This year's Slow Marathon is part of artist Andrea Geile's project Energised Landscape, where she has been examining places of energy, innate or man-made, real or perceived, in the area southeast of Huntly. From Neolithic sites, to hill tops, to renewables and new pylon constructions.

The route will begin near the Corren Hills, heading back to Huntly, exploring some of the ancient and contemporary sites of energy within the landscape on route. The walk will be followed by a day of discussion surveying sustainable energy in Scotland: where we are now and what the future might hold.

The Slow Marathon is now an annual event run by Deveron Projects and is a walk of marathon distance (26 miles / 42km) exploring the Aberdeenshire countryside. It was first initiated by Mihret Kebede through her project with us in 2012. The Slow Marathon is both an endurance event, attracting walkers from all walks of life, and a poetic act, bringing art and walking together to explore a landscape.
