Frequently Asked Questions about business waste and recycling
- Why do I need to recycle?
The law requires all businesses and organisations to separate recyclable material from general waste. If you don't comply you will be issued with a fine.
- Why do businesses have to pay for their waste and recycling to be collected?
The cost of waste and recycling collections is not included in the business rates so there is a separate charge for these.
- What sizes of bins are available?
We have a range of bin sizes available to suit your needs. For full details, see Bin sizes for business waste and recycling collections (PDF 549kb).
- Can't I just use the street bin outside?
The street bins are provided for domestic use only. Businesses are not permitted to use these bins to dispose of any of their waste. Use of these bins would mean you would not be complying with the Duty of Care legislation.
- Can I use recycling points and centres?
Recycling Points are for household waste and recycling only. As a business or organisation, you are not permitted to use them unless express permission has been granted by Aberdeen City Council.
Aberdeen City Council Household Waste Recycling Centres are not licensed to take commercial waste. Businesses and organisations are not permitted to use them.
