| Adhesives and Glues |

| Aerosol Cans | These can be collected for recycling in Aberdeen City. Please recycle when empty, do not crush, pierce or flatten. |
| Aluminium Cans |
All types of food and drink cans can be recycled at our network of Recycling Points or as part of the Kerbside Recycling collection service. |
| Aluminium foil |

| Asbestos |
Asbestos is a hazardous substance and can cause serious health problems if the fibres are broken and inhaled. |

Ashes
|
Wood ash can be used around the garden to improve the soil as it contains valuable minerals. Small quantities can go in your compost unit or compost heap. Ash from coal fires is not suitable for use in the garden due to its tar content. Soot is a useful garden nutrient. It can also be used as a slug deterrent. |

Both domestic car and household batteries can be recycled at your local
Recycling Centres.
The companies listed below will accept their own brand nickel cadmium rechargeable batteries for recycling:
Silver Oxide Cells are most commonly used in watches and calculators. Most jewellers will accept these for recycling due to their silver content. |

| Bicycles |
Some charitable organisations will accept bicycles in good condition. A full list of charity shops can be found in your local directory. Charity books shops include Oxfam bookshop, Back Wynd, Aberdeen and British Heart Foundation, George Street.

Books can be swapped online at Book Mooch for the cost of postage, passed on via Freecycle or sold to second hand book stores like Books and Beans. |
| Bricks |

| Bubble wrap |
Reuse bubble wrap as protective padding when sending large items or putting valuable items into storage or when moving home. If it cannot be reused please place it into your general waste bin. |

| Cameras |
Cameras 4 Charity, a project run by Photo Voice which teaches photographic skills to disadvantaged communities all over the world, accepts cameras in good working order. Any good quality digital cameras are accepted. They will also accept 35mm camera film (but not slide film) - even if it is slightly out of date. Call 020 7033 3878 or visit www.photovoice.org You can sell them through your local or online classified adverts or pass it on via Freecycle. For more information visit Aberdeen Freecycle. You can also take them to one of your local Recycling Centres where there are collection facilities for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). |
| Cans | All types of food and drink cans can be recycled at your local Recycling Centres or Recycling Points or as part of the Kerbside Recycling collection service. |
| Cardboard |
All types of clean cardboard can be recycled at your local Recycling Centres or Recycling Points or as part of the Kerbside Recycling collection service. Please make sure all cardboard is put inside the bag. Excess large cardboard will not be collected from the kerbside. Please note that large cardboard cannot be collected with the Kerbside Recyclate collection service and should be taken to your local
Recycling Centres or Recycling Points . Cardboard should always be placed inside paper recycling bins, not beside. Leaving waste beside the bins is fly tipping and you can be fined for this. Cardboard can also be shredded and placed in your home composting unit or be used in the garden for mulching bare soil and suppressing weeds. |
| Cards | Cards can be reused as gift tags or used in craft projects. They can also be recycled at your local Recycling Points, as part of the kerbside Kerbside Recycling collection service or in one of the On Street Recycling banks. In January, there are usually special collections made to collect Christmas cards for the Woodland Trust. Look out for further information on this service at this time. |
| Carpets |
Carpets in reasonably good condition can be donated to local charities for reuse. Unwanted carpets can be donated to Instant Neighbour, Instant Neighbour House, 5 St Machar Drive, Aberdeen. Tel: 01224.489955 or email info@instantneighbour.co.uk. Poor quality carpets can also be reused in your garden as a lining to prevent weeds or to cover compost heaps. | Chemicals |
Household chemicals such as garden fertiliser, weedkiller, insecticides, biocides, pest-control pellets, glues, paint and solvents can be taken to the Recycling Centre at Greenbank Crescent, East Tullos, for safe disposal. |
| Children's Toys |
Children's toys, clothes and books can also be donated to your local charity or offered for sale at your school or church fete. Unwanted battery operated toys can also be taken to one of your local Recycling Centres where there are collection facilities for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). |
| Cling Film | Cling film cannot be recycled. Where possible, use reusable containers rather than cling film to store food. |
| Clothes hangers | Don't accept hangers in shops if you don't need them and take back hangers given out by Dry Cleaning shops. Clothes hangers can be donated to your local charity shop for reuse. |

Clinical Waste |
This includes adult nappies, syringes, sanitary products, soiled dressings and bandage or any item soiled by blood or bodily fluids which must be sent for incineration for safety reasons. If you think you may produce clinical waste, please contact the NHS for advice on disposal. |
| Coffee grounds |
Coffee grounds and filter paper can be composted in your home compost unit or Green Cone waste digester or as part of your Garden Waste Kerbside Collection. Used coffee grounds are naturally high in nitrogen and other nutrients and make a great mulch for plants that thrive in acid soil. They are also a useful slug deterrent. |

Many travel agencies and foreign exchange bureau have collection boxes for unwanted foreign coins. |
