Green Badge Permit – Aberdeen Close Proximity Parking Scheme

What is a Green Badge?

A Green Badge allows exclusive access to certain specially reserved kerbside spaces in central Aberdeen.

Where can a Green Badge be used?

A Green Badge allows you exclusive access to certain specially reserved kerbside
spaces in central Aberdeen. You may be eligible for a Green Badge, if, due to the
severity of your disabilities, you find it difficult to use other designated city centre
parking facilities for people with disabilities.

The Green Badge spaces allow for getting out from a vehicle either by a side ramp or a tail lift, or for the transfer of a driver or passenger out into a wheelchair. Kerbs have been lowered at every Green Badge location.

How long can you park for?

Green Badge holders may park for a maximum period of three hours in the specially designated spaces. This is regulated by the use of a windscreen parking disk which will indicate the time of arrival. This parking disc must be displayed every time you park and set to show the time of arrival.

Who can apply for a Green Badge?

A person may be eligible for a Green Badge if, due to the severity of their disabilities, they find it difficult to use other designated city centre parking facilities for people with disabilities.

You may apply if:

  • you receive the higher rate of the mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance
  • you have a vehicle excise duty exemption certificate

People over pensionable age, and not claiming DLA, may apply for a
Green Badge. Applicants may be assessed by an Occupational Therapist.

The Green Badge is issued to the individual. This means that the holder could
use it in any vehicle (including taxis, provided the taxi FOR HIRE sign clearly
indicates that the vehicle is not for hire).

Duties as a Badge holder

You must not allow other people to use the Badge. You must ensure that the
details on the front remain easy to read. You should not use the specially
designated spaces if you do not need to leave the car and you must not allow
able-bodied people to take advantage of the benefits while you sit in the car.

Misuse of a Badge

In terms of the legislation, misuse of the Badge will result in it being withdrawn.
Only Green Badge holders are permitted to park in Green Badge Spaces.
Parking without a Green Badge may incur a penalty charge notice. Holding a
Green Badge does not take away your right to hold a Disabled Person's badge
as well.

How to obtain a Green Badge

The badge costs £30 per year and application forms are available at contacting Marischal College Customer Service Centre.

Your application should include a passport size photograph of the Badge holder
with their name affixed to the form. Please allow 28 days for processing the
application. You have to re-apply for your Green Badge annually.
