Population trends, Aberdeen City, 1991 to 2016

Since 1991, the population of Aberdeen City has increased by 7.3%.  During this period the population has had periods of decrease as well as increase.  The drop in population between 2015 and 2016 brings to an end an 11-year period of year-on-year increases.

Population projections by age band 2014 to 2039

Aberdeen City’s population is projected to rise almost 268,000 by 2039. The working age population is projected to increase by 11% from 161,147 in 2014 to 178,179 in 2039. Over the same period, the older age population (65+) in Aberdeen City is projected to grow by 45% from 34,262 to 49,772.
