Family Learning Activities

Group drawing Teenage Parent Groups

Teenage Parent Groups offer a support network for teenage parents living in the local area. During the session a Health Professional/ Midwife will give support, professional advice and information on being pregnant and becoming a parent.

PEEP – Parents as Early Education Partners

PEEP is available to all parents and carers with children from birth to five years. Group sessions run weekly in school term times and usually last about one hour. PEEP offers adults the opportunity to gain accreditation through the Scottish Qualifications Authority.

Roots of Empathy

Roots of Empathy is an evidence based classroom programme that has shown significant effect in reducing levels of aggression among school children while raising social/ emotional competence and increasing empathy. At the heart of the programme are classroom visits by an infant and parent.

Through guided observations of this loving relationship, children learn to identify and reflect on their own thoughts and feelings and those of others. In Aberdeen City this is primarily being implemented in the Northfield Academy Catchment area.

The Family Learning Project

Works in partnership with local schools and other agencies to provide a variety of programmes and events to support parents/carers with behaviour management, confidence building, homework support and family English classes. They can also provide mums, dads, grandparents and carers the opportunities to have fun, while learning with their children. In addition, there are opportunities for parents to volunteer and to receive guidance, support and training towards finding employment and/or further education.
