Don’t Waste Your Christmas: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle more this festive season
The festive season is a time of joy and goodwill, which wraps in its cheerful feel each and every one of us. But, unfortunately, it also results in excessive consumption and wasteful behaviour. A huge proportion of the waste created – up to 3 million tonnes - will end up in landfill sites as the public's attitude becomes even more relaxed towards waste and recycling over the festive season.
Waste Aware Aberdeen has launched a campaign to encourage waste minimisation and recycling this Christmas. Our aim is to remind residents that Christmas need not be wasteful, and that if everybody makes small changes to their purchase choices and consumption patterns over the holidays, the outcome will be beneficial for the environment.
The central message that we are trying to convey is that Christmas, New Year and other seasonal holidays will be just as enjoyable if we celebrate them in an eco-friendly and responsible manner. So let’s have a Waste Aware Christmas and reduce festive waste by minimising it in the first place, and through recycling and composting what’s left.
