What is Masterplanning ?
Masterplanning is a way of bringing people together to help plan and create better places. It concentrates on the following principles when creating new developments:
- Good Design
- Integration
- Efficiency
- Movement
- Consultation

Aberdeen City Council also works closely with Architecture and Design Scotland and their Design Review Panel when developing and approving new Masterplan documents and invites them to comment on Masterplanning proposals.
Design Review Panel
In order to raise awareness of design in the North East, a Design Review Panel has been set up. The panel is a joint venture between Aberdeen City Council and Aberdeenshire Councils.
Grandhome Charrette
The Scottish Sustainable Communities Initiative (SSCI) is a Scottish Government Initiative which aims to create developments of high quality design that are distinctive, innovative and contribute to a more sustainable future and Grandhome has been selected by the Scottish Government. The Charrette concept is an interactive public design workshop which creates draft masterplan options for the site through new public engagement and design techniques. The Grandhome Charrette was held in March 2010 at the AECC in Aberdeen.
