Ordnance Survey (OS) Mapping Information
For a planning application to be valid, you must submit a map extract. When you submit a Planning or Building Warrant Application, you are required to attach a location plan showing where the development is taking place in relation to surrounding roads and other buildings.
The Local Studies Section of the City Library cannot supply OS mapping for the purposes of Planning or Building Warrant applications.
OS mapping is the most effective base map to use as it is easily recognised by Planning staff. Maps are usually provided at scales of 1:2500 or 1:1250 depending on the location. In rural areas a map showing the site's relationship to the wider area should also be provided.
OS mapping must be properly acknowledged with the appropriate OS copyright text and licensing number.
OS mapping suitable for submission with a planning application can be obtained from OS Mapping and Data Centres, and local ones are listed below.
