Mineral Extraction

Introduction

Development proposals for mineral extraction in the city will be judged primarily on the basis of policies in the development plan for the area.

The development plan for Aberdeen comprises both the Aberdeen City and Shire Structure Plan (2009) and the Aberdeen Local Plan (2008).

The most relevant policy is number 17 (Mineral Extraction). Other policies that are relevant include: 28 (Green Belt), 31 (Landscape Protection), 34 (Natural Heritage), 71 (Pipelines and Control of Major Accident Hazards) and Appendix 1 (Four Tier Policy Areas for Minerals, Landfill, Land Raise and Wind Farm Proposals).
