Aberdeen City Doors Open Day
Introduction
Doors Open Days is Scotland's largest free annual architectural event. It is co-ordinated nationally by the Scottish Civic Trust and is part of European Heritage Days along side Scottish Archaeology Month, co-ordinated by Archaeology Scotland. Both are supported by Historic Scotland.
Doors Open Days is celebrated in September throughout Scotland as part of the Council of Europe European Heritage Days. This joint initiative between the Council of Europe and the European Commission aims to give people a greater understanding of each other through sharing and exploring cultural heritage. Across Europe 49 countries will hold similar celebrations with over 20 million people expected to take part. People can visit free of charge places of cultural and historic interest which are not normally open to the public or which usually charge an admission fee. The event aims to encourage everyone to appreciate and help to preserve their built heritage.
The Scottish Civic Trust is the national co-ordinator for Doors Open Day across Scotland. In Aberdeen the event is organised by the Aberdeen Doors Open Day Committee which comprises of representatives from Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeen Civic Society and the Architectural Heritage Society of Scotland.
Details of the year's venues will be published on this web-site every July/August, please see below for this year's leaflet:
