Disease ContingenciesThe Animal Health Service is a key player, together with the Scottish Government and the Grampian Emergency Planning Unit, in the co-ordinated response to animal health contingencies. Such contingencies might arise on either a local or a national scale and require the timely realignment of resources to the particular incident.
Such contingencies specifically include the outbreak of notifiable diseases such as foot and mouth disease, swine fever and rabies, as well as emerging threats such as avian flu.
