Business and Trade Waste
Everything we do in our day-to-day lives produces waste, this can be in the form of resources, emissions, packaging, and even time.
Waste produced at work is no exception, and as landfill disposal costs are set to increase it is getting more and more important that commercial premises look at alternative methods of disposal and even waste reduction.
Each commercial property will produce differing types and quantities of waste, making it difficult for one method of management to apply for all. The majority of commercial waste can be collected at cost, and recycled through either Aberdeen City Council's own waste collection services or through an independent waste management contractor.
Unfortunately commercial waste produced within Aberdeen City cannot be accepted at Recycling Centres and Points. Such waste has to be collected through a licensed waste management contractor. Aberdeen City Council's Collections Service Section is responsible for collecting and disposing of commercial waste, from businesses that have chosen to use this service over an independent waste management contractor.
Paper, cardboard and glass
Paper, cardboard and glass can be collected separately from residual waste and recycled. Paper and cardboard can be collected by bundle or cage, and glass is collected from hand bins or wheeled bins. All these services are chargeable, depending on the volumes of waste produced. This table below highlights the scale of charges for refuse collection as of 1st April 2009.

- If enclosures are being built to house containers, 100mm allowance should be made to allow for movement.

As part of Aberdeen City Council's commitment to waste management, a Business Waste Minimisation Officer has been appointed through the provisions of the Waste Implementation Plan. The role of the Business Waste Minimisation Officer is very simple, to assist commercial premises to reduce, reuse and recycle their business waste.
The campaign on business waste runs in conjunction with the kerbside initiatives to collect domestic waste, with the overall aim of such schemes being to raise awareness of waste issues both at home and work.
