Bathing Waters
A berdeen has an extensive sandy beach which is approximately 4km long, an area of Aberdeen Beach has been classified as 'designated bathing water' under
The Bathing Waters (Scotland) Regulations 2008. There is a potential threat to water quality at Aberdeen's designated bathing water from surface water urban drainage, agricultural run off, storm water sewage overflows and direct treated sewage arising from rainfall driven short term pollution events. These events are expected to last 1-2 days depending on the duration of the rainfall and may result in elevated bacteria levels compared to dry weather conditions.
During the bathing season (1 June to 15 September 2011), an electronic message sign displays SEPA's daily water quality prediction and
signage. This is located adjacent to Aberdeen Beach.
