Development Plan
Introduction
The development plan currently consists of the Structure Plan and Local Plan. Following the modernisation of the planning system and the review of these documents they will, in the future, be called the Strategic Development Plan and Local Development Plan. The purpose of the Development Plan is to set the framework for new developments, and planning applications are assessed against the provisions (land allocations and policies) of the development plan.
Structure Plan
The Aberdeen City and Shire Structure Plan covers the geographical areas covered by Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire Councils excluding the Cairngorms National Park. The Structure Plan plays a key role in guiding development over the next 25 years. Our vision is to create an even more exciting, modern and sustainable European city region - an excellent place to live, visit and do business. The current Structure Plan was approved on 14 August 2009.
You can find out more about the preparation of the plan on the Aberdeen City and Shire Strategic Development Planning Authority web-site or by contacting the Strategic Development Plan Team.
Local Plan
The Aberdeen Local Plan was adopted on 25 June 2008. The Aberdeen Local Plan sets the framework for land management within Aberdeen, by identifying detailed planning guidance to 2010 plus giving direction to appropriate locations for development in the longer term beyond 2010:
A review of this plan is currently being undertaken. The replacement plan will be called the Aberdeen Local Development Plan, and it is intended to adopt this plan in July 2012.
