Design Campaign
Improving the quality of design in our everyday lives is a key objective of the Scottish Government.
| "We can all make a contribution to improving our environments for future generations to enjoy and appreciate. A well designed environment can and does improve quality of life for everyone". "Design Snapshot" - Scottish Government |
Aberdeen faces the challenge of delivering a significant number of new homes, infrastructure and employment opportunities identified in the Draft Structure Plan. We also want the quality and design of new developments to be nationally recognised and leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
The City Council is therefore leading a Design Campaign jointly with the Robert Gordon University to raise design quality in the City.
The Faculty of Design at the Robert Gordon University, Gray's School of Art and Scott Sutherland School of Architecture and the Built Environment are working with the Planning and Infrastructure Service to effectively engage with the "design community" as well as public and private sectors.
It is expected that the Campaign will:
- Positively raise the design profile of Aberdeen, both nationally and internationally;
- Increase the quality of design aspiration and output from the public and private sectors;
- Assist or enable the delivery of national and international award winning, design-led projects;
- Create the platform for greater public awareness and debate on design issues.
The Campaign concentrates on 10 Challenges which the City faces.
Your views are welcome on the content of the Challenges and we would particularly like to hear from you if you wish to become involved in the Campaign.
