Open Data & Linked Data
New Data Sets (23 April 2013)
Today we added ten more data sets which cover Library Loans for 2012 - 2013. You can find them on the Education and Learning page.
What is Open Data?
Open data is about increased transparency, about sharing the information we hold with the wider community to build useful applications.
We're always looking for new ways of making it as easy as possible for developers and website owners to access and present data held by us in ways that they want allowing you to remix, mashup and share data easily.
Use the links to the right to navigate to our various datasets available.
We'll be adding more datasets soon, as well as pointers to online tools for making use of this data.
How can I get involved with, and use the Open Data?
We want people who live or work in, or visit, Aberdeen to get involved in this initiative by using, transforming, and sharing information.
We've made some Open Data live already and we're planning to identify and make much more of it available. It's categorised so that it's easy to understand.
If you want to play with the data and create something that you think others will find interesting that's great! Where possible, the data has been provided in a mashable format so you can use tools such as Yahoo Pipes.
- YahooPipes (go ahead and create your own account!)
- Official Yahoo Pipes Documentation and Tutorials - including YahooPipes for Open Data Projects.
We now have a linked data repository, available at: http://linkeddata.aberdeencity.gov.uk/ which provides a number of data sets as linked data.
Once you've transformed the data, email us at email@example.com and let us know what you've done and we'll post it on the site. If it impresses our techies, it may even appear as one of the top mashups on this page!
We'd really like to hear any comments you have on the data or mashups: firstname.lastname@example.org
We're going to develop some training materials to explain mashups and how to create them. If you would like share your mashup expertise with our community, get in touch with us.
