Local Studies

Central Library old small Aberdeen Local Studies provide information and help with research on all aspects of the city and the surrounding area from the earliest period of history to the present day.

What's On

  • 125th anniversary of Aberdeen Central Library: visit the Library 125 webpage to learn more about the history of the library and the events to be held during the Summer to celebrate its anniversary.
  • Reflections, a creative arts project: to help celebrate 125 years of the Central Library on Rosemount Viaduct, Aberdeen City Libraries invite you to submit an original piece of creative work reflecting what history means to you. More information on the Reflections page.
  • 125 Treasures: five new treasures from our collection can be viewed at The Silver City Vault. The Treasures from our Collections interactive exhibition is also available on the touchscreens in Central, Airyhall, Tillydrone and Mastrick libraries. More details about the 125 Treasures project can be found on our Library 125 webpage.

How to find us

Local Studies is located within the Information Centre at the Central Library. It is fully accessible to disabled visitors via the lift and ramped entrance.

The Central Library is located on Rosemount Viaduct, at the end of Union Terrace, adjacent to St Mark's Church and His Majesty's Theatre. It is approximately 10-15 minutes' walk from the railway station. Car parking facilities are available at the rear of the building at the Denburn Car Park, Skene Street. Charges apply.

  • Tuesday, Thursday to Saturday: 9am to 5pm
