ABERDEEN CITY COUNCIL
INFORMATION FOR PARENTS ON SCHOOL PLACING AND EXCLUSION APPEALS
EDUCATION (SCOTLAND) ACT 1980 (AS AMENDED) - APPEAL COMMITTEES
The Education (Scotland) Act 1980, as amended by the Education (Scotland) Act 1981, gives parents certain rights to choose their child's school. If your child has not been offered a place at the school of your preference you have the right to appeal against the decision. Also, as an entirely separate issue, parents have the right to appeal if their child is excluded from a school. In either of these situations, if parents are not satisfied with an education authority's (i.e. the Council's) decision, they may refer their case to the School Placings and Exclusions Appeal Committee. This Committee acts as an independent tribunal.
Both placing and exclusion appeals should be made in writing to the Senior Democratic Services Manager, Aberdeen City Council, Town House, Aberdeen, AB10 1AQ Telephone:- 01224 522822 or email:- email@example.com
Information on how to appeal, can be found on the Scottish Government's website link http://www.gov.scot/Publications/2010/11/10093528/4
