Genealogy Search Room Services
Access to the statutory birth, death and marriage registers, which date from 1855, is available through a 'Particular' or a 'General Search'.
A 'Particular Search' requested in person at the public counter, is conducted by the Search Supervisor or registration staff on your behalf and costs £5 per entry, for a fifteen-minute search. If a longer search for two or more entries are required, then it is advisable to book a computer search, when researchers are given access to the whole of Scotland births, deaths and marriages on computer. This is conducted by the Search Supervisor and can be booked on an hourly basis costing £20 per hour. For a full guide to the services, view or download the Family History Leaflet.
A postal service is also available, where the Search Supervisor will conduct an hour long search on the computer and send you digital images. The charge for this is £20 per hour.
