Working conditions and rewards - what we offer
We want to help you strike a balance between your work and personal life - so we have a variety of ways you can work flexibly, and in many cases we exceed legislative requirements to promote the welfare of our employees. Our flexible working options include opportunities to work full or part-time, you may also be interested in working during the school term, doing a compressed working week, working to a shift pattern or even at times work from home. We also operate a flexi-time system in many of our services that allows you to determine your own start and finish times and you can even save up any additional hours to take some time off at a later date.
We offer a generous annual leave entitlement of 27 days, rising to 32 days after 5 years continuous service and 35 days after 10 years. In addition, you're entitled to 7 public holidays throughout the year. If you work part time, your leave will be calculated on a pro rata basis according to the amount of hours and number of weeks you work.
Annual leave for holidays, leisure or other purposes is not the only form of leave we offer. We appreciate that there are many other reasons why you might need to take time off from work and we're extremely supportive of this. Our generous provisions include for time off to have children (including adoption), care for children or dependants and time to recuperate after illness. We can even offer a career break if you need to pursue other interests for a period of time and offer time off work for certain public duties.
Where you satisfy the qualifying conditions, entitlement to sickness allowance will depend on your length of continuous local authority service as follows:
|Service at start of absence||Full allowance||Half allowance|
|Less than 6 months||Nil||Nil|
|More than 6 months but less than 1 year||5 weeks||5 weeks|
|1 year but less than 2 years||9 weeks||9 weeks|
|2 years but less than 3 years||18 weeks||18 weeks|
|3 years but less than 5 years||22 weeks||22 weeks|
|5 years or more||26 weeks||26 weeks|

Your benefits are defined and guaranteed in law. To find out more, visit www.lgps.org.uk or www.nespf.org.uk
We provide a tax-free childcare benefits scheme for employees with responsibility for children. The amount you save will depend on the amount of salary you sacrifice and also the rate at which you pay tax but employees who opt into the scheme can save as much as £900 per year.
