Tell me about temporary accommodation.
The Council uses different types and sizes of temporary accommodation dispersed throughout the city. This includes hostels, bed and breakfast establishments, furnished flats and independent units with support. Currently, the Council is increasing the number of furnished temporary flats and family-size accommodation. Residents are responsible for rent payments for the duration of their stay and may claim Housing Benefit if they are on a low income or unemployed. For those unsure how to claim benefits our advice staff are there to help. During this difficult time residents will be offered support whilst in temporary accommodation. The Council employs 4 Tenancy Support Officers and an Advice and Resettlement Worker. Also a Family Support Worker is available for families with children.
The occupancy and tenancy rules applicable to homelessness temporary accommodation are there to ensure the wellbeing and safety of all residents.
For those who are homeless but not in priority need or intentionally homeless, temporary accommodation is available for a reasonable period of time to secure alternative accommodation. Advice and assistance will be provided to help resolve their homelessness. We strive to place applicants in the most appropriate temporary accommodation. We welcome any comments on deficiencies in accommodation standards and will make every effort to correct them.
Those considered homeless, in priority need, unintentionally homeless and have a local connection with Aberdeen city will be provided with temporary accommodation whilst they are made up to two homeless offers of permanent accommodation. No distinction is made between those using homelessness temporary accommodation and those living elsewhere.
Aberdeen City Council issues questionnaires seeking feedback from all who use our temporary accommodation and follow up on any concerns expressed or improvements suggested.
