Energy Efficiency - Council Tenants

One of the roles of the Energy Team is to assist in the delivery of the Council's vision to tackle Fuel Poverty for its tenants.

Under the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, we are required by the Scottish Government to provide an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) when a council property is either sold or there is a change of tenancy.
An EPC not only tells you how energy efficient your home is, it is also a tool which provides ways to improve energy efficiency.
From April 2015, the energy efficiency (EE) rating from EPC will also be used as a threshold for a new energy standard set by the Scottish Government.
As a social housing provider, our target will be to ensure all of our properties are meeting the minimum Energy Efficiency Standard for Social Housing (EESSH) by 2020.

We have already started working closely with other services in the council to improve the physical standards of the properties, which includes installing new windows and insulation.

We are also aware of rising fuel prices, therefore we have introduced the district heating system into the multi storey blocks, where grant funding is available, to provide space heating and hot water with a capped rate.

We are also working with external partners like SCARF (01224 213005), who act as an independent energy adviser by advising tenants on how to operate their heating system efficiently, and how to save energy at home.
