Aberdeen's Highland Games

Aberdeen's Highland Games has taken place for over 35 years and is held in the Games Field at Hazlehead Park and always on the 3rd Sunday in June (21st June 2009). The Games are an integral part of the Grampian Games circuit and delivered under the auspices of the Scottish Games Association. 

The event opening times are 10.00 am to 6.00 p.m.

Entry Prices:  Adult £5       Child £3      Family (2 Adults & up to 3 Children) £12

Traditional Highland Games

The event delivers a traditional programme of Highland Games including Scottish 725kg Tug-o-war Championship, heavy and light events, track and field events, dancing, pipe bands and solo piping competitions.

Entry to traditional events

  • Pipe bands enter via the North of Scotland Branch RSPBA.
  • Heavy Events and Novice Heavy Events enter on the day at the Games Arena.
  • Dancing enter on the day at the Dance stages.
  • Light Events enter on the day at the Games Arena.
  • Solo Piping enter on the day, see signs on entry. entries close 1 hour before event.

Dancing, solo piping, heavies, tug-o-war Scottish Championship 725kg, light events (90 metres,400 metres,800metres, long jump, triple jump, high jump) all enter on the day.

Prize monies: 1st £40, 2nd £30, 3rd £20, 4th £15. (same competitions will payout to 5th place others to 6th place, see programme on the day)

Grampian Games Qualifying Championships for Heavy Events (sponsored by Glenfiddich Pure Malt Scotch Whisky) Championships open to competitors 17-25 years of age at start of session.

All competetors are required to pay their own entry fee into the games, competition entry fee is free.

Only registered competitors will be permitted to take part in official events, be awarded points towards S.H.G.A. leagues and be entitled to collect prize money, trophies or medals being presented by the S.H.G.A. Unregistered athletes are not entitled to any cover under the S.H.G.A.'s personal injury Insurance scheme. Please note competitors most have their own insurance cover.

Registration to the S.H.G.A can be accessed through printing a form from www.shga.co.uk . A special one event fee is available as well as a full years registration. 

Family Entertainment Arena

A family entertainment programme has been developed to enhance your Games experience through special displays, demonstrations and activities that will take place throughout the day within various areas of the Games venue.

Trade stalls

Trade stalls will be selling food, gifts, arts & crafts and clothing. There will also be local charities giving you the chance to catch up with what they have been involved in and even trying your luck with their various fund raising activities. Applications for trade or charity stalls have now closed (30 April 2009).

Catering

A wide choose of  catering suppliers will be in attendance on the day.
