Youth Democracy

Youth Democracy

The focus of Youth Democracy work in Aberdeen is to promote meaningful participation within the democratic process at a local and national level and to help young people to engage in this.  It is our responsibility to increase awareness of, recruit young people to and support young people on the Aberdeen City Youth Council (ACYC), the Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) and the British Youth Council (BYC) along with any and all other bodies that give young people a voice and helps them to promote the youth agenda and to properly engage in the democratic process.

"At a time when public budgets are constrained and diminishing, where recession has seen a disproportionate impact on young people, and when the general trust in the democratic system has reduced, there is a greater need than ever to demonstrate how youth engagement can strengthen democracy". Youth Information

The Youth Information aspect of the work delivered by the Youth Development Team will incorporate what was previously the Dialogue Youth Service, we manage a resources library of educational and activity material used by city-wide professionals who work with young people, and developing the partnership with Young Scot to provide the young people of Aberdeen access to all the benefits and services that this service offers, such as getting the most out of the Young Scot National Entitlement Card (Accord Card).  Along with this there is a commitment to develop and deliver needs based Youth Information Sessions in secondary schools on a weekly basis and in any other community environment as needed.
