Secondary School
Hazlehead Academy is the designated secondary school within Aberdeen City where provision is made for children to continue studying Gaelic Language. Children are offered Gaelic as a subject at all stages.
In S1/2 the pupils follow a programme that builds on their knowledge of Gaelic language. The aim is to develop further the four linguistic skills of Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing following National Guidelines for Gaelic 5-14. This study of language is delivered through the medium of Gaelic, leading on, for those pupils who wish to continue, to a Standard Grade course in Gaelic (fluent speakers) in S3 and S4 and from there, if they so choose, to Intermediate 2 or Higher level. At all levels, but especially from S3 upwards, the study of Gaelic concentrates on modern literature as well as language.
