Arts Across Learning Festival
Welcome to the first and eleventh festival of Arts Across Learning - the first because this is the first time that the festival is explicit about implementing Curriculum for Excellence, and the eleventh because ten previous Aberdeen Storytelling & Theatre Festivals have been all about learning in, through and about the arts, and have offered schools wide and varied opportunities to do just that.
This year we have introduced a new layout to the brochure, some thoughts and ideas about festival events and benefits, and a new section on Continuing Professional Development for teaching staff. The new Arts Across Learning in Practice section demonstrates how teachers can take full advantage of the opportunities for interdisciplinary learning.
In the context of the developing Aberdeen Learning Strategy, which will lay out a direction of travel for the next ten years, we will continue to develop and refine what the festival can provide Aberdeen's children and young people.
As in previous years, the 2010 Arts Across Learning festival offers unrivalled free opportunities for pupils to learn in, through and about the arts, both in and out of school. Theatre companies and storytellers will go into schools and there are a wide range of other learning environments for classes to visit.
Each storyteller, creative artist and theatre company provides a rich context for learning, the curricular connections are diverse and stimulating and above all, pupils benefit hugely from fun, active and creative learning. Enjoy!
The festival brochure can be downloaded from the link above right, or look out for copies in schools, libraries and arts venues across the City.
