Methlick School - open on Christmas Day, December 25th 1900
In this, our last Document of the Month of 2009 and the end of the feature, we highlight anentry from the Methlick School Log Book whichmay come as a surprise to us today - in December 1900 the headmaster notes that "This being Christmas Day, school was opened earlier than usual, and dismissed after two attendances were completed".
Not only was the school open on Christmas Day, the children had to start earlier than usual. The fact that two attendances were recorded also shows that they were there in the afternoon - one attendance would be taken in the morning, the other after lunch. Changed days!
Unlike the pupils at Methlick School, Aberdeen City Archives are closed from Friday 25th December 2009 to Monday 4th January 2010 inclusive. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers well over the festive period.
