Freedom of Information
The Freedom of Information (Scotland) 2002 Act (FOISA) gives you a right of access to information held by all Scottish public authorities, including Aberdeen City Council. It is intended to make it easier to understand how we carry out our duties, why we make the decisions we do, and how we spend public money.
This means that if you make a request to us for information, we must give it to you - provided that we hold the information, and it is not exempt from release. Freedom of Information (FOI) is about improving access to information by the public and will deliver greater openness and transparency throughout the public sector.
Openness is one of the founding principles of Aberdeen City Council and we support the aims of the Freedom of Information legislation.
The Freedom Information Enquiries Team is your first point of contact for information about your rights under the FOISA and the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004. We can provide you with advice and guidance including:
- where to find information in the Council's publication scheme;
- an explanation of why you may not receive all the information you ask for; and
- your rights under the legislation.
We are available Monday to Friday 9-5 by telephone, or by email at any time.
