City centre utilities work update

27/08/08

The utilities works being carried out by Scottish and Southern Energy in Aberdeen's harbour area continue.

The firm is laying three electricity cables to carry power from a sub-station on Commerce Street, to the new retail development at Guild Street.

The outside lane of Virginia Street will be available for traffic heading for Guild Street and Market Street from Commerce Street, along with a diversion from Commerce Street  and Regent Quay for heavy goods vehicles.

The Virginia Street, Market Street and Guild Street junction is to be partially closed to traffic on Sunday [31 August to allow Scottish and Southern Energy to continue with its cable laying work.

The diversion route will be via Trinity Quay, Virginia Street, Commerce Street, the Beach Boulevard roundabout, Commerce Street, Virginia Street and beyond to South College Street for traffic travelling to Guild Street. The diversion route will be signed accordingly.

During the Virginia Street closure and the subsequent nearside lane closure of Virginia Street, there will be no waiting restrictions along the length of the diversion route of Regent Quay (from Commerce Street to Virginia Street), and Waterloo Quay (from Wellington Street to Commerce Street).

These restrictions will be in place for up to six weeks.
