Motorists warned to expect traffic delays

29/08/08

Motorists are warned to expect delays next week as Market Street is reduced to one lane northbound while work to lay power cables for the new retail development on Guild Street continues.

The nearside lane will be closed from 9.30am on Tuesday [2 September].

A convoy operation will be put in place from 7pm on Wednesday [3 September] to allow the road crossing to the offside lane. The lane closures will then be switched to the outside lane for both north and southbound traffic.

It is anticipated that the work will be complete before rush hour on Friday afternoon.

There will also be a nearside lane closure for southbound traffic on Virginia Street for the next two or three weeks.

Motorists should follow the diversion signs to avoid delays.

Drivers ignoring the signs on Commerce Street risk causing an accident as the two lanes merge into one at the mouth of Virginia Street.
