Pink Ball raises more than £20,000 for cancer patients

A charity Pink Ball held in Aberdeen has raised more than £20,000 for a pioneering project for cancer patients.

The Pink Ball was organised by Aberdeen's Lord Provost's Charitable Trust and raised the cash for CLAN (Cancer Link Aberdeen and North).

All proceeds from the black tie dinner - named in honour of cancer patients - will be used to help improve the way in which those newly diagnosed with cancer are supported to cope with the psychological impact of their diagnosis.

Around 170 guests attended the Pink Ball at the Douglas Hotel on Market Street on Friday [14 November] and danced the night away to the Graham Geddes Band and the Ceilidh Pipers after enjoying a champagne reception and four-course dinner.

The event was generously sponsored by First Oil and was compered by Northsound 2 DJ Cammy Campbell.

A charity auction brought generous bids for lots including Eastern Airways flights to Stavanger with two nights accommodation, a dinner and panto package, and dinner for 12 at the Marcliffe Hotel and Spa, as well as whisky, jewellery, paintings and fishing packages.

The Lord Provost's Charitable Trust is a fund independent of Aberdeen City Council, which was set up for the millennium to support good causes of all kinds in the city.

Lord Provost Peter Stephen said: "It was a fantastic night and everyone had a great time. We were delighted to be able to raise just over £20,000 for CLAN, which does such sterling work locally.

"Over the years, the Lord Provost's Charitable Trust has supported many different community groups and charities in the North-east, but cancer touches so many lives that we decided to support CLAN and donate the proceeds from the Pink Ball to support a specific programme that helps newly diagnosed patients."

CLAN chief executive Debbie Thomson said: "The Pink Ball was a truly wonderful event and everyone at CLAN is thrilled with the amount raised. The generosity of the public never fails to amaze, and it is largely through events like these that we are able to continue to raise vital funds to help improve the lives of those affected by cancer."

CLAN is an independent charity which helps individuals of all ages who find themselves affected by any type of cancer by providing a safe place for them to express and overcome their worries.

Based in Aberdeen, the charity covers the whole of Grampian, Orkney and Shetland. CLAN recently launched its 1-2-3 campaign, which aims to raise £3million over two years in a bid to move to a purpose designed cancer support centre and headquarters.
