Developer gives undertaking over trees on Kepplestone site

22/05/07

Aberdeen City Council has today (Tuesday 22 May) received an undertaking from Stewart Milne Homes regarding work at its Kepplestone development site in Aberdeen.

The move follows a site meeting yesterday (Mon) which an Aberdeen City Council spokesman described as “very positive”.

The Council had been seeking an interim interdict after it emerged last week that trees on the West End site had been damaged in breach of the developer’s planning consent and a tree preservation order.

However, the action has been sisted following the undertaking given by Stewart Milne Homes today at Aberdeen Sheriff Court after yesterday’s site meeting.

The City Council spokesman said: “Following today’s hearing, Stewart Milne Homes has given the Council an undertaking that no further work will take place in the protected areas until an assessment of the damage done to the trees has been carried out and remedial measures agreed with the Council and implemented.

“Stewart Milne Homes has already erected protective fencing around all the areas with protected trees, which will prevent any further damage, and has been co-operative in seeking to resolve the problems identified last week.

“The presence of attractive mature trees on the Kepplestone site is one of the aspects that make it a desirable place to live. It is for this reason that the Council is concerned about the continued protection of trees — not just on this site, but across Aberdeen.”

The Stewart Milne Group is building 325 homes on the Kepplestone site where work began in 2005.
