Dyce residents get their say on weekly recycling collections
08/12/06
Residents who have been taking part in the Dyce weekly recycling collections are getting the chance to have their say about the service.
Questionnaires have gone out to 2,500 households to allow residents to give their opinions on the pilot project.
The new-look service was launched for a trial period in Dyce in September 2005, marking a move away from traditional weekly household waste collection towards a focus on the collection of materials for recycling. The kerbside recycling collections were increased in frequency to once a week, with non-recyclable waste and garden waste collected fortnightly.
The questionnaire gives Dyce residents the opportunity to provide valuable feedback which, combined with collection data, will allow the environment and infrastructure committee to assess the overall impact this service has had on households.
Residents are urged to complete and return the questionnaire by December 15 to be entered into a free prize draw for a wind-up radio or a Waste Aware goodie bag.
This new collection service has been viewed as the next potential step towards reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfill. Research has shown that more than 50% of household waste can be recycled, with similar services successfully introduced in more than 100 local authorities in the UK.
Residents in Dyce who would like further information about their current refuse and recycling collection services can email WasteAware@aberdeencity.gov.uk or phone 0845 608 0919.
