Sheltered housing modernisation goes down a treat with tenants
29/08/08
Residents at two sheltered housing complexes held special events to mark the highly successful upgrade of their homes.
Castleton and Woodhill Court residents were provided with meals and care by Aberdeen City Council staff while their kitchens and bathrooms were improved in two six-week programmes of work lasting from mid-May to the end of this month.
Residents were delighted with the quality of the work on their homes, organised by the Resources Management Asset Policy (Housing) Unit, and the service they received from the Care at Home team, and sent many e-mail messages and cards to council staff as a thank-you
To mark the finish of the work, buffets were laid on at the two complexes, to which Lead Councillor for Housing Aileen Malone and local elected members were invited, as a thank-you for the co-operation for all involved.
The work involved improvements to the homes of 50 to 60 residents, aged from 60 to more than 90-years-old, in each of the courts. Carers prepared and served three meals a day for the residents a continental breakfast, a hot two-course lunch, and sandwiches for supper and served them up in each of the common rooms.
Councillor Malone said: Im really happy that the residents were so pleased with the quality of the modernisations and with the care they received while they were inconvenienced by the work. The council always strives to give the best possible service to its tenants and this is a fine example of our housing people and our care team working together to get it right.
Castleton and Woodhill Courts have been the first sheltered housing complexes to be upgraded under the current programme of kitchen and bathroom upgrades. Aberdeen City Council will be aiming to deliver a similar service to the residents of other sheltered housing blocks which are in line for modernisation.
