Gordon Edwards - Corporate Director for Resources Management
After graduating with an MA Degree in Accounts and Economics, Gordon Edwards worked with a private sector accountancy firm. He was a trainee accountant with Grampian Regional Council and studied for the CIPFA qualification at Liverpool John Moore University. Gordon then progressed into several management positions with Grampian Regional Council, becoming Assistant Director of Finance in 1992.
In 1996, Gordon became Director of Finance for Aberdeen City Council and, in 2000, he took over responsibility for ICT. Gordon has also been Treasurer for a number of Trusts and outside bodies, such as Grampian Police Board, Aberdeen International Youth Festival and Aberdeen International Football Festival. He was also responsible for administering the £1.5 billion local government pension scheme which includes many public sector bodies in North East Scotland.
In September 2005, Gordon became Corporate Director for Resources Management. His role will ensure that the Councils key resources are used to optimum efficiency to deliver high-quality services to the citizens of Aberdeen and that the organisation is one that can respond positively to the constantly changing local and national agendas.
