Disability

Picture of a wheelchair Aberdeen City Council continues to work for people with disabilities and Disability equality takes account of all the issues raised through our involvement and discussions with our partners, as well as our legal duty under the Disability Discrimination Act, and by the new Equality Act.

Our priorities continue to be:

  • Involving people with disabilities in developing policies, services and decision making
  • Ensuring physical access to all our services
  • Ensuring access to all information
  • Promoting and mainstreaming disability equality
  • Eliminating all discrimination and harassment
  • Promoting good practice and leading the way
  • Making sure that people with disabilities have equal opportunities

Our policy has always been to involve people with disabilities in our planning and in our delivery of services and the following groups help contribute to this work:

  • Aberdeen Access Panel
  • Disability Advisory Group
  • Voluntary Sector Organisations for example Aberdeen Action on Disability, Aberdeen Disability Consortium and Aberdeen Council of Voluntary Organisation (ACVO)
