Council Tax and Housing Benefit Appeals
If, on receiving notification of Council Tax and/or Housing Benefit entitlement, you feel that want to know more about the decision or if you think it may be wrong, you should get in touch with the Benefits Section within one month of being notified or we may not be able to consider any dispute.
You can either:
- ask for an explanation
- ask us to reconsider the decision about your Benefit. This must be in writing and within ONE MONTH of you receiving the decision
- appeal, in writing, against a decision about your Benefit (this appeal must be made within ONE MONTH of receiving the decision).
You may wish to phone us first to see if we can reach an agreement without a formal appeal.
A booklet 'Do You Think Our Decision is Wrong?' can be sent to you on request.
This booklet tells you how to appeal, the time you have to carry this out and what is involved.
