Changes to Ward Boundaries for Local Government Elections

In 2007 the way in which Councillors are elected will change. At present one Councillor represents one city ward (there are presently 43 wards and 43 councillors in the city of Aberdeen each representing 3,500 - 4,000 electors). In 2007 there will be 3 or 4 councillors per ward with larger wards of about 12,000 - 16,000 electors.

In order to make this happen there needs to be review of the present ward boundaries and this will be carried out by the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland. There are a number of stages to the review and we are at the stage where the Boundary Commission have sent their draft proposals to the Council. The Boundary Commission are seeking and will consider the Council's views before going out to public consultation later this year.

The Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland has now published proposals for public consultation. Please visit their website for further information.
