Interpreting and Translation Service

The Translation, Interpreting and Communication Support Service (TICS) is for people whose first language is not English and who want to use Aberdeen City Council services.  Local interpreters or, where appropriate, the national live service, Language Line, provide the service.

In addition to spoken language translation, the service also co-ordinates the provision of sign language interpretation, Guide communicator, transcription into Braille and Audiotape across the Council. TICS offers confidential interpreting and translation to our service users, improving access to all Council services for members of the different Communties in the city.

Based on the requests received, the following are the 10 recently most highly demanded community languages and formats:

Polish 268 Lithuanian 91
British Sign Language 49 Portuguese 63
Cantonese 142 Latvian 48
Bengali 125 Arabic 42
Russian 119 Mandarin 35
