Aberdeen Crematorium
Aberdeen Crematorium is about 4 miles west of the city centre and situated off the B9119, Skene Road on the outskirts of the city. There are two chapels, East and West with a seating capacity for approximately 96 and 270 persons respectively. Each service is allocated 40 minutes although extra time can be booked if it is required for a very large service. Bookings are normally made through a Funeral Director.
For those who don't have their own transport it can be reached by taking a First Aberdeen Bus to the Woodend Terminus opposite the gate to Woodend Hospital.
Memorial Chapel and Garden
Both the Chapel and Garden are situated just after the entrance/ exit junction within the crematorium grounds. Granite memorial plaques are displayed within the Chapel, on the external walls of the Garden and on memorial planters. The Garden is open between 9.00am and 4.00pm daily. Visitors will find wooden memorial seats spread throughout these peaceful gardens.
Garden of Remembrance
Bereaved families and visitors will find the extensive Garden of Remembrance tranquil and pleasant. They are open from 9.00am to 4.00pm daily.
The cremated remains may be:
- strewn by the Crematorium Superintendent in the Garden of Remembrance at Aberdeen Crematorium, Hazlehead, with the family in attendance
- strewn by the family in the Garden of Remembrance at Aberdeen Crematorium, Hazlehead, following consultation with the Crematorium Superintendent
- strewn elsewhere after being taken away by the family (remember to consult the owner of the land)
- strewn in the Garden of Remembrance adjoining the Hall of Remembrance, Kaimhill Road
- Interred in a grave at a cemetery
The public are requested not to leave tribute vases or memorials at the Garden of Remembrance, but instead place cut flowers in the large stone vases supplied by the Council. These items, if left in the garden will be removed from time to time in order to assist in the maintenance of the grounds.
Floral tributes:
During a funeral service family floral tributes will be displayed, as far as possible, on top of the coffin. If there are a large number of tributes many may have to be left in the floral display areas which are situated at the rear of the chapels. These floral tributes can be placed where the cremated remains have been strewn. However, they will be removed once they deteriorate and become withered.
