Putting Aberdeen Culture on the map

Aberdeen City Council are in the ongoing process of building a map of the city's cultural assets and provision, identifying areas of strength as well as sectors in need of improvement or development. This research process will include several forms of investigation from survey's and consultation to data comparisons.

Phase One

In 2012, the Council worked with BOP Consultants to undertake research and prepare a Cultural Assets Map for Aberdeen. This work was developed to help provide a more comprehensive understanding of the city's current cultural offer, including the physical assets and intangible strengths as well as identifying local cultural and social needs. BOP Consultants gathered information through mixed methodology of desk based research of existing data, information sessions, a cultural representatives steering group, interviews and online surveys.

The Cultural Asset Mapping Report is available for download at the link below.

 Phase Two

- Audit and analysis of city based practitioners and creative small and medium enterprises.

- Development of creative industry art form specific plans.

- Assessment of sector audience development needs matched to increasing participation.

- Development a platform to disseminate the information to wider sector through an online map and portal.
