Aberdeen City Council is committed to supporting the development of arts, culture and creativity in the city. Whether it's the intrinsic value of being creative or the social, educational and economic benefits of cultural activity and events, its important role in our everyday lives is clear and recognised.
Aberdeen has 5 key aspirations for the development of culture and creativity in the city.
Ambition 1: making all the city a stage
Aberdeen is a city which inspires, where exciting cultural experiences are around each and every corner and where there are no creative boundaries; a place where all the city is a stage.
Ambition 2: becoming Scotland's creative lab
Aberdeen is a city to experiment in, a nurturing home, destination and testing ground for artists, businesses and ideas; it is Scotland's creative lab.
Ambition 3: unlocking our creativity
Aberdeen is a city opening doors, where anyone, regardless of circumstances can be transformed through engagement in arts and culture, a place unlocking our creativity.
Ambition 4: sharing our culture with the world.
Aberdeen is a city like no other, where the arts are central to celebrating and promoting our unique culture, history and heritage; a place which is telling its story to the world.
Ambition 5: growing ambitions and sustaining success
Aberdeen has a strong collective of cultural leaders collaborating to realise the city's potential and develop the national reputation of our institutions.
To support these ambitions, the Creative Funding Programme offers cultural organisations, community groups, charities and individual artists or creatives the opportunity to apply for support to develop and/or deliver creative activity. For 2017 we are also encouraging proposals that align with the national year of 'History, Heritage and Archaeology'.
