City Wardens
City Wardens provide a flexible service that responds to the needs of the communities they serve. The service was launched in January 2009 by redesigning the roles and responsibilities previously undertaken by Parking Enforcement Officers, Environmental Wardens and Community Wardens.
The Wardens help to deter antisocial behaviour, littering and illegal parking in the city. They also help to reassure the public that Aberdeen City Council is doing all it can to keep communities safe and secure.
In May 2011 the City Wardens started to use body worn video cameras. The aim is to help tackle violence and antisocial behaviour throughout the city. Footage captured on the cameras can be used as evidence and shown in court, helping to secure convictions.
Award Winners
The City Warden Service has been recognised nationally winning several awards:
- British Parking Awards 2011 in the Parking in the Community category
- COSLA Bronze Award 2010 in the One to Watch category
