Trade Descriptions

It is an offence to falsely describe goods or services that are available for sale or supply.

During the course of their work officers from the Trading Standards Service investigate complaints that goods and services have been incorrectly described. Such complaints can range from the mileage reading on a car, to the composition of clothing or furniture, to provision of services.

The worst contraventions can result in the preparation of a report for the consideration of the Procurator Fiscal.
