Trading Standards aim to promote a fair and safe trading environment in order to protect both consumers and businesses from unfair and unsafe trading practices.
Trading Standards is responsible for providing advice and enforcing a wide range of criminal legislation in areas including:

- Fair Trading
- Petroleum and Explosives
- Product Safety
- Rogue Traders and Doorstep Crime
- Tobacco Law
- Weights and Measures
Citizens Advice Scotland provides an extensive online resource and telephone advice on consumer problems including faulty goods and services, and disputes with traders.

Complaints requiring further investigation are passed to Trading Standards.
Trading Standards can provide advice to all businesses within Aberdeen City on complying with the consumer and trading laws within our remit.
