citymoves Youth Dance Company - FUSION
2008 / 2009

After a enjoyable audition workshop we have successfully selected 8 members for the citymoves Youth Dance Company.  The group is participating in weekly creative development classes that commenced on 8 September.

During Autumn the group had a workshop with smallpetitklein and worked with Natasha Gilmore, Gilmore Productions to create a curtain opener for The Blank Album performed at the Lemon Tree.  Also thanks to funding from "The City" bar and restaurant the company were given the opportunity to visit The Space in Dundee to see the end of year production.

For the Spring term the group performed at a site specific project in February at The Academy Shopping Centre and performed at Spring in the Air (citymoves community show).  During the Easter Break they had a residency with Barebones Dance Company.

The group is now in their last term for the year.  This term the girls will be involved in 2 performances, AECC Young People Services Awards on 18 June and Young Soundings at Woodend Barn, Banchory on 6 July.  The group will also have a workshop with choreographer Errol White and see his performance at The Lemon Tree.

Towards the end of the year Fusion will join 2 other Scottish Youth Dance Companies from Scottish Dance Theatre and MacRobert to participate in a dance intensive.  The aim will be to begin developing a new piece of work that will premiere at the Great Big Dance Event in November.

Also for the first time the group will join the Aberdeen International Youth Festival Summer School Dance Lab for a 2 week residency in July / August.  They will be taking part in workshops and classes and be involved in the Dance Gala at His Majesty's Theatre.

citymoves Dance Tutor Lynn Brown will be mentoring the group and leading the weekly classes with input from various local artists / tutors.

Scottish Country Dancing Class @ citymoves

The Scottish Country Dancing class which meets at citymoves on Saturday mornings had a busy month in March 09 as they participated in the Inverness Festival held at the Eden Court Theatre and the Aberdeen Festival held at the Music Hall.

PREVIOUS NEWS FROM THE GROUP:

On 29th February 2008 our Scottish Country Dancing participants were participants in the Aberdeen and NE of Scotland Music Festival Scottish Country dance section, in the Music Hall.

The results from this even were:

Educational Trust Shield, Secondary Schools Open. 1st

RSCDS cup , Girls secondary Schools. 2nd

Terry Wallace Trophy for age 11-under 16 , 3rd

It was a very tight competition and we were thrilled to win.

On 8th March the same winning team went to the Moray Festival in Elgin. In the 16 and under section we were placed 1st with a distinction certificate.  It was a fun day out and the girls got to know one another a lot better. We were asked to be part of a concert of winners on 16th March however I could not raise a team so we did not go.  The RSCDS Aberdeen branch funded the travel and entry fee for this event.

This term we are working towards RSCDS Medal Tests.
