Outdoor Access Forum

Aberdeen Outdoor Access Forum brings together all of the key stakeholders in access to the outdoors in order to facilitate discussion, understanding and improvement of responsible access in Aberdeen. Most people agree that managing access to the outdoors is a good thing, although there are different views on how it should be done. Walkers, horse-riders, cyclists, water-sports enthusiasts, land managers, local communities, Aberdeen City Council and other organisations may all have different interests, concerns and priorities.
The forum consists of representatives of all of the key interest groups. This is important as it brings people together in order to consistently and fairly implement the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003. The Forum advises ACC and any others consulting it on outdoor access issues and offers assistance in the resolution of any outdoor access disputes. A key role of the Forum in its early years will be the preparation of the City’s Core Paths Plan, which is a statutory requirement of the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003.
Aberdeen Outdoor Access Forum was set up at a public event in November 2005, at which individuals were invited to volunteer to represent land managers, users or communities. The membership of the Forum has a fair balance of these interests and members were elected to the Forum by those present at the event. There are also some agencies which have close links with outdoor access. As a result, Scottish Natural Heritage, NHS Grampian and the Forestry Commission Scotland are also members. The Forum meets every three months and its members would be happy to discuss any issues with you or on your behalf with the rest of the Forum.
