Details

Councillors in Aberdeen City Council take decisions in meetings of the Council or its Committees. To do this the Council decides which Committees it wishes to set up, what work each Committee will do and what Council services the Committees will be responsible for.

Sub-Committees, Boards and Trusts

There are some areas of work where more in-depth discussion is required or where the Council wishes to involve people who are not Councillors in discussions. In these circumstances, the Council will often set up a Sub-Committee, Task Group, Forum or similar.

The Council

There are 43 Members of the Council which comprise of Members of the following political groups: 15 Liberal Democrat, 13 SNP, 10 Labour, 4 Conservative and 1 Independent.

Full Council meetings are held once every six weeks and involve every Member of the Council. These meetings are chaired by the Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Peter Stephen and in his absence the Depute Provost, John West will chair the meeting.

Committees are made up of members from the political groups of the Council in numbers proportionate to the political make-up of the full Council.
